When I was in high school, my father cut down several trees in the back yard. For years afterward, he talked about cutting them up into small logs for firewood, but instead the trees rotted away on the ground, eventually becoming overgrown with weeds.

It took about 15 years for the back yard to finally be cleaned up! I made this photograph several years after the trees were cut down.
